Zagreb
The tour
starts with a morning exploration of the Croatian capital - a cultural city with
a strong tradition of hospitality. Firstly, you will visit one of the most
striking memorial parks in Europe - the Mirogoj Park Cemetery, before continuing
through Zagreb’s Old Town to visit St. Stephen’s Cathedral, St. Mark’s Church
and the Kaptol and Upper Town districts. Finally, no tour of Zagreb is complete
without an excursion around the Dolac open-air market. End your Zagreb tour at a
traditional restaurant, tasting specialties such as strukli
– a pastry filled with a type of cream cheese. Spend the rest of the afternoon
having coffee in Tkalciceva Street or visit one of Zagreb’s many museums.
Meals: Breakfast,
lunch
DAY 3 –
Plitvice
Morning
departure for Plitvice National Park. This series of lakes in the heart of
Croatia is breathtaking and you will find it difficult to take your eyes off the
brilliant turquoise water that teems with fish and the odd water snake. There
are 16 lakes in total which are interlinked by several spectacular waterfalls -
all set in lush woodland populated by deer, bears, wolves, boar and many rare
bird species. Check in at the hotel upon arrival followed by a quick freshen up
before touring the lower Plitvice lakes in the early afternoon.
Meals:
Breakfast, dinner
DAY 4 –
Plitvice – Sibenik – Split
The morning
completes the stay in Plitvice as you join our tour leader for the upper lakes
tour. Part of this section is done on the park’s special road train and the rest
on foot. Say goodbye to the national park with lunch at a local, and very
reputable, restaurant. The drive from Plitvice to Šibenik lasts about 3 hours
but takes you through the most scenic parts of the Dalmatian hinterland before
reaching Sibenik. This town boasts a superb, compact old town and features
another one of Croatia’s UNESCO World Heritage sites - the Cathedral of St.
James. There is enough time to explore Sibenik on your own before departure to
Split. Evening arrival in Split and check in at the hotel. The rest of the day
can then be spent at your leisure.
Meals:
Breakfast, lunch
DAY 5 - Split
– Trogir
Split is one
of the most energetic places in Croatia. It has a vibrant and lively centre
built around the remarkable Diocletian's Palace. Diocletian, the Roman Emperor,
built this palace in the 3rd Century as his retirement palace and when the
Romans left, the locals moved in. This gives Split’s centre the air of a living,
breathing museum. A guided visit will take you around Diocletian's basements,
Jupiter's Temple, the Cathedral and Golden Gate. After some free time in Split,
there is a short drive up the coast to Trogir, which is also UNESCO-protected.
Your guide will help you make the most of your visit, taking you around the
Trogir Loggia and the impressive Master Radovan’s Portal before finishing this
leg of the tour with lunch at a Konoba -
a traditional Dalmatian restaurant. Return to Split and then it’s up
to you how you spend the rest of the day – stroll along Split’s Riva promenade,
visit the spectacular Mestrovic gallery or just while away the hours in a cafe.
Your tour leader is at your service if you require any suggestions or advice.
Meals:
Breakfast, lunch
DAY 6 - Split
– Ston – Dubrovnik
The morning’s
drive from Split to Ston takes you on a picturesque coastal drive south, past
islands such as Brac and Hvar to the head of the Peljesac Peninsula. Ston is a
magical place that boasts a fortified wall that is reportedly the second longest
in the world after the Great Wall of China. Ston’s oysters are fast gaining an
international reputation due to the cleanliness of the water they are grown in
and we cordially invite you to join your travelling companions at
Konoba restaurant for a tasting
session of these delectable shellfish. Afternoon arrival in Dubrovnik and check
in at the hotel. The rest of the day can then be spent at your leisure.
Meals:
Breakfast, oysters in Ston
DAY 7 –
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is
first on the list of most visitors’ essential destinations in Croatia and for
good reason. It is a city of unique political and cultural history and of
world-famous beauty. Did we also mention that it is a UNESCO World Heritage
site? Apart from the striking architecture, Dubrovnik also offers many
interesting things to do and see. The morning begins with a guided tour of the
old town which takes in the Franciscan Monasteries, one of which boasts the
oldest working pharmacy in Europe, the Rector's Palace – once the seat of the
independent Dubrovnik Republic and the oldest Sephardic Synagogue in the world.
Explore Dubrovnik in your own time in the afternoon - wander around its lively
streets, enjoy a swim at the local beach or take an excursion to the island of
Lokrum. Or do nothing – it’s up to you! Celebrate the whole trip at the farewell
party at a family-run tavernain the nearby village of Cilipi. There’s no better
way to do this than over a mouth-watering traditional Dalmatian dish – the
finest lamb slowly roasted under a thick iron pan covered in hot coals, all
whilst being entertained by local folk musicians.

Breakfast, dinner
